Netflix na konci minulého roku upevnil pozici streamovacího krále. Firma oznámila, že ve čtvrtém čtvrtletí utržila 5,5 miliardy dolarů (historický rekord) a skončila s čistým ziskem ve výši 587 milionů (druhý nejlepší výsledek). Finanční ředitel firmy se v predikcích trefil velmi přesně.

Potenciál pro růst uživatelské základny dokonce podstřelil. Netflix plánoval, že na konci roku bude mít necelých 166 milionů předplatitelů, nakonec jich ale měl 167,1 milionu, což je meziročně o 20 % víc. A ve srovnání s předchozím kvartálem přibylo téměř 9 milionů platících diváků.

Netflix již nedělí svět na USA a ostatní země, ale začal zveřejňovat bližší čísla jednotlivých regionů. V Severní Americe má 67,7 milionu předplatitelů a v průměru mu do kasy přibylo 13,2 dolaru na hlavu. V Evropě, Středním Východě a Africe napočítal 51,8 milionu předplatitelů s příjmy ve výši 10,5 dolaru na jednoho. V Latinské Americe je 31,4 milionu předplatitelů (ARPU činí 8,2 dolaru) a v Asii a Pacifiku je 16,2 milionu předplatitelů (ARPU 9,1 dolaru).

Zajímavé je, že v Severní Americe mu už prakticky neroste uživatelská základna, ale díky zdražení předplatného se mu o 17 % zvýšily příjmy. Nejrychleji roste v tuzemském regionu (EMEA), kde mu přibylo 4,4 milionu platících. Netflix předpokládá, že v prvním čtvrtletí 2020 bude mít celkově již 174 milionu předplatitelů.

Zaklínač je velkým hitem

Na podzim firmě odstartovali dva vážní konkurenti v podobě Apple TV+ a Disney+. Netflix již v minulosti řekl, že se jich nebojí a že na je trhu místo pro více hráčů. Že mu uživatelé zůstávají věrní, pak ukazuje na Google Trendech, kde srovnal množství dotazů na seriály Witcher (Netflix), Mandalorian (Disney+), Morning Show (Apple TV+) a Jack Ryan (Amazon Prime Video). Jde o výkladní skříně všech zmíněných služeb a shodou okolností všechny seriály (v případě Amazonu nová řada) startovaly na podzim. O Zaklínače byl zájem nejvyšší. Srovnání trendů pochází z Nizozemska, neboť Disney+ zatím odstartoval jen ve čtyřech zemích. Firma však věří, že globální čísla by nebyla moc odlišná.

Zaklínač je každopádně velký hit, který Netflix ve finanční zprávě zmiňuje několikrát. Šlo o historicky nejsledovanější premiéru nového seriálu v jeho historii. V prvních čtyřech týdnech jej vidělo 76 milionů domácností. Adaptace polské fantasy už má odklepnutou druhou sérii, na obrazovky se vrátí příští rok. Netflix si chválí zájem také o akční film 6 Underground, který vidělo již 83 milionů domácností, a animák Klaus, který si pustilo již 40 milion předplatitelů.

Firma opakuje, že chce nadále posilovat také regionální tvorbu. Nic konkrétního, co by se týkalo Česka či Slovenska, však neprozradila.
